PREPARING FOR A HEMORRHOIDECTOMY
​
Hemorrhoidectomy is the surgical removal of hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the lower rectum and anus. The anus is the opening where bowel movements pass out of your body. The rectum is the end of the intestines just inside the anus. Hemorrhoids often cause pain, bleeding, and itching.

MEET THE ANESTHESIOLOGIST

Consultation booking

Laboratory and Imaging test completed
-
Preoperative questionnaire
THE DAY BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE:

Fast 12 hours prior to procedure
-
24 hour bowel preparation (Liquid diet)
-
Remember to leave all valuables at home (jewelry, money etc.)
-
Refrain from smoking and use of alcoholic beverages
-
Shower the morning of the procedure​

SURGERY TIMELINE:
-
Patient assessment about 45 minutes after check in
-
Anesthesia takes about 15 minute
-
Surgery takes 35 minutes
-
Recovery requires 45 minutes to 1 hour
-
Upon clearance by the doctor the patient is released

RESULTS TIMELINE:
-
Any tissue or specimen may be sent to pathology for evaluation and you will be responsible for submission to the lab (If necessary)
